Specifically how does the macro check system work?

Im sure this is discussed elsewhere but I am a bit confused about this.

Tonight around 9 PMish my time, I was doing some carpentry and stopped crafting and ran my random walking script so that I did not get disconnected. I went downstairs and brewed up some tea and took care of some misc cleanup in the kitchen and returned to find that a macro check had appeared and that I had failed it, the message also stating that any related skills and stats would be dropped to 0.

Now, I assume since there is no skill for 'walking', the skill it is referencing is the last skill I used which was carpentry...

The toon is a bowyer (so my cap is 85 in carpentry) and I was at 84.8 when I stopped the macro.

I went ahead and finished out carpentry to 85, even tho I totally expect to loose the skill the next time a gm is on since there were no gms on at the time.

So, what is the time frame AFTER I stop using a skill that I need to hang around to make sure I am not checked for macro'ing unattended?

I think the GMs can check when was the last time you used the skill of Carpentry before the macrocheck. So you should send a private message to a GM regarding this case. If your story is true, they can probably varify it for you.

Good Luck!

I've been interested in what triggers a macrocheck anyway. Mostly so that I don't miss one when I'm not macroing, because when I macro I always keep one eye on UO. (And the other eye on a TV show or movie :))

Macrocheck can appear anytime during the 5 minutes after you have stopped using the skill. Best practice is to log out anytime you leave computer. Btw, I checked the log and you used carpentry skill 7 seconds before you were disconnected by the macrocheck. So you kept macroing full five minutes while the macrocheck was on your screen.

Fair enough, I might have left it crafting the current batch when I went downstairs, cant remember.

What is the current procedure for this? I lost all the carpentry and both strength and dex went down by half. Is that normal?

Yeah the stats which are affiliated with the skill gets dropped by 50%. It's an automatic script which does the calculation and dropping, we just press a button.

Well, even more interesting, stats must play a huge factor in crafting cause I now cant craft things that I was making exceptional of before...

GM bowcraft should easily make exceptional shortbows, now Im failing to even make them....

:(

The macro check also needs to be modified to take a snapshot of the skills at the point of the macro check fail, I had built carpentry after the fail and lost even that all the way to 0

:(

Sorry, but what??

So, if I want to make sure I dont have a macro check appear, I have to sit and watch my character for 5 minutes?

I mean, I get the reason for the long delay, it keeps people from macroing unattended doing a skill every minute (instead of the usual 10 seconds) in order to 'game' the system and macro unattended with the sacrifice of slower gains but there must be a better way to do this...

You can always log out instead of waiting.

Correct, either watch your char for 5 minutes - or log out.

I dont like to log out because the instant I log in, I have to eat. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is to me. Especially considering that I go thru 1k gold worth of food every couple of days.

But it is what it is. Ive already got nearly everything back to where it was, I now know that the macro check has a 5 minute timer on it, whatever.

I dont agree with a 5 minute timer but opinions are like butts, everyone has one.
