The family re-union

Post by Darian Darkmind »

The Exorsus Nox, the raising darkness, was a name once whispered in terror, a family that stroke both fear and respect to men. They once roamed the lands of Britannia leaving piles of bodies behind them. Never caught, they were like shadows, an echo in the night. In years the brothers vanished, moved on, died. The legacy of Do'Brim was lost and forgotten in time. All but one man.

The night was young, the moon illuminated the infamous tavern of Cove, a place for low-lives, thugs and criminals to spend their evening. Sitting in the old shack some call an inn drinking the same old piss, the nameless, forgotten faces gathered together. It was that time of the year again. The storm brewed hard outside and many of the men inside the tavern had no other place to seek shelter.

However, this year it was even worse. Not that it was storming harder, but everyone knew, sensed it in their bones that something sinister was in the motion. Some had lost their homes and they felt that nothing would ever be the same again. The war had raged on Britannia for years taking lives, children and families. Many of the men drinking for their misery were the very victims of such actions. The Telboreans, Imperials, Tekstone, Law... and now even the peaceful Order of Nature had joined the hunt for blood.

The future indeed seemed dark. But where one sees misery, the other sees opportunity. And so did the man of this story. A man strong and fast, scarred from teeth to toes was quite a sight even amongst the known thugs. "A round for everyone!", the man said stepping inside the rat-infested shit-hole of a tavern.

Although the infamous family Do'Brim was long lost, their name still struck fear and respect to to those who usually found shelter in Cove; bridgards, murderers and common thieves. Now the long lost name had arrived to Cove, or at least one of them, Derius Do'Brim. One of the elder brothers of the family, one of the strongest and one of the few left was now seeking for fit men to join his side, to join his quest for glory. Where others saw war, misery and death, he saw spoils of war, loot and riches, he saw opportunity.

The men of Cove quickly realized who the man was. Impossible they thought. The land was freed of the plague that was Exorsus Nox long ago. Yet, now, a man stood in front of them. Blood and flesh, very much alive, giving an opportunity for the tired men to strike back, to revenge, to take what they held dear - but lost due to war.

The man sat down on a large table. All alone, he nodded to the bartender to fill the table with pints of ale. The bartender worked as ordered and soon the table was filled with beer. The man didn't have to sit alone for long. After all, a table filled with free ale was an invitation, a temptation a few men could resist. Soon the table was filled of men, younger and older, mages and fighters, old enemies and allies all with one thing in common: Nothing to lose. Assassins, thieves, thugs and even once noble knights now pledged loyalty to their new cause.

In the darkest night the long lost family, the Exorsus Nox was reforged. With their thirst for ale satisfied, their hunger for blood was awaken...
