Re: Riches for the taking

After a short sailing trip, they arrived on Dragon Isle, said by some to be the most dangerous place in the world. Ziven couldn't disagree. If only half of the stories he had heard about the island were true, they were dancing on Death's scythe just by being there.
They had been moving through the forest for less than an hour and already the first signs of dragons appeared. A tree, bitten in half. The teethmarks could clearly be seen on the remaining tree trunk. Then a mile further into the woods, they saw a large cluster of burned trees. Their dark skeletons a reminder of what would happen to them if any dragon would find them.
"What the hell are we doing here," Kane quietly muttered to himself.
"Cheer up, Kane, use your head and don't make a sound," Skrin whispered. "Gomez, move ahead and scout," he added.
Though Ziven didn't say it out loud, he agreed with Kane. There was no profit to be found on this island, only a sudden and fiery death.
They continued for an hour more when Gomez signalled them to halt from up ahead. He moved out of sight through the thick bushes and returned to them after a few minutes. "Found it," he whispered, then gestured them to be very silent by pressing his index finger on his lips. "Follow."
They quietly followed him to a large clearing. They couldn't believe what they saw. The huge dragon was sitting there and seemed to be talking to nearly a score of other dragons and drakes that surrounded him, listening to him with their full attention. They didn't understand the language it was speaking, but it was clear that the other dragons and drakes did.
"What the," Yaen started out loud, but then Gomez slapped him on his head. "Shut it," he whispered harshly.
"It's... recruiting?" Ziven whispered.
Skrin nodded and said, "so it seems. We have seen enough. Let's head back to the ship."
They quietly made their way back to the ship, but somewhere halfway in a small clearing, they encountered a drake. The drake spotted them and immediately charged at them, blowing flames at them. Spears and blades appeared in their hands as the group of skilled assasins started dodging the fire breath and stabbing the beast from all sides. The fight was over shortly and none of them was injured, though Yaen's robe was burning and he hadn't noticed it yet. "Yaen, roll on the floor," Ziven called to him. Yaen didn't seem to understand, but then he sniffed and looked down. "Oh shit," he said, and he dropped on the dirt, rolling around to kill the flames. "Thank you Ziven."
They all chuckled for a moment until Skrin said, "move out, quietly. This was a drake, we don't want to find a dragon now, do we?"
They arrived at the ship unnoticed by any other creatures. There was no words spoken in the grim silence on board. When they arrived on the mainland, Skrin said, "Ziven, I want you to go to Destard and see if you can find out what happened there."
"Alright, Gomez, Kane, come," Ziven said, but Skrin interrupted him, "alone. I need the others for another mission."
Ziven nodded. He didn't like the idea to go to that dungeon all by himself, but there's nothing he could do about it now. He wouldn't let the others know his fear, as fear was not tolerated in the organization. At least he knew how to avoid the dragons inside. "I'll take my leave then."
Skrin nodded and said, "return to me in full health, would ya?"
Ziven couldn't help but smile and said, "will do. Anything else?"
"Off with ya!" Skrin said.
And off Ziven went. He sadled his steed and was riding towards the dungeon shortly after.
