"Let's do this Thoeak! Hold them back!" Knee to knee and shield to shield they held back the enemy. It was their third battle since they enlisted in the legion. The pulse was high and both were quite nervous. Tronos had known Thoeak for a long time and it felt safe knowing an old friend had your back. The enemy threw themself at their shields but the two legionaries simply stabbed the enemy down with their shortswords. A slave rebellion in the north had gone to far and the Emperor sent their legion to put it down. The slaves had burnt two villages and marched towards the third one. But the standard of Telborea stood high and the soldiers beneath it were ready to die for it. They rushed the legion as frenzied dogs that turned against their master. They had no discipline nor tactics, it was more of a bloodbath then battle. Sudden screams from the Telborean troops on the right flank, a fire erupted and several legionaries ran into the enemy in panic while on fire. Only to be cut down by swords and axes. The enemy saw the opportunity and attacked their line once again. They took them by suprise and the slaves slowly pushed them back. Tronos heard Thoeak scream in rage and he saw the arrow in his thigh. But his friend fought on, parry and stab. He nearly paid with his life for the lack of focus. The sword from a short slave got past his guard and manage to stab him in the shoulder. Instant pain rushed out in the arm and he nearly dropped the shield. He went down to one knee and the slave raised his sword for the killing blow. He couldn't raise the shield but only watch. The slave suddenly fell forward and landed infront of him, with a dagger jutting out from his neck. Thoeak grabbed Tronos by the arms and dragged him away. "I lost my sword heh. You will be alright". And then darkness.
Several years later and here he sat. Drinking ale at the Serpent's Inn. His old friend always followed his word and now he was gone. His friend, his general had joined the Cult of Tekstone to honor a pact he made. He understood but he was still sad over it. Tronos looked under his shirt at the scar he got from his third battle. He suddenly remembered the day Thoeak became legatus, and the pact he made to him while they were alone. He mumbled the words while looking at the mug of ale in his hand "For you my friend, I give you my sword, my shield and my life. To serve you until death." The words his general gave back numbed him "Then we shall die together friend. Side by side forever" Tronos put down the mug and got up. Took his shield and sword and stormed out, the other soldiers watching him on confusion. A greater battle has started and his friend is fighting it alone. He gave the sailor a few coins of gold "Where we going?" the old man said. Tronos smiled to himself "To Wind my friend, to honor a pact"
