Wandering throughout the smoldering hot sun, a young woman emerged from the sandy desolate island. Wishing for just one sip of a fresh drink of water, she continued forward, shading herself from every inch of sunlight which seemed to never end. The only thing she had to shade her was round hat, which looked as though it were weary of the sun as well. Even as the days grew late, in this land the sun never went to close it's eyes. It burdened all of those who lived, and only those who were evolved enough to handle it's unbearable rays were able to withstand it's incredible ferocity.
Her skin was a rather pale color, although the sun seemed to add a bright red pigment to her arms and face, her hair, pinned back in a tight bun, woven together with several strong twigs which stuck out of the side of her head. Her clothes were slightly tattered, as though she had traveled a long distance to get to where she is now.
She could never imagine herself staying in this wretched place. How could these peoples’ only love be the sun? She thought hard as she found a place to sit. She let out a sigh as she took one last sip of the remaining water she had. Well, this is it… She looked out at the sea, wondering what would ever come of her.
She thought about all that she was about to leave behind, her younger sister, who at this very moment was studying to potentially be of nothing but a weary sun worshiper herself. If only she were willing to come with me, the different places we would explore, the better her life would be, instead all she wants is to be of this ridiculous tribe..
The young woman had never fit in, for all those who lived here only followed a few ways of living. Many of them were fishermen and women. There were some who worshipped the sun so much that there was an alter and temple built in it’s honor.
On one part of the island there was actually enough nutrients in the soil for several fields which grew a variety of different fruits, vegetables and other necessity plants. Although the young lady hadn’t really been on that part of the island often, she really would have probably stayed if she had known the settlement there. Despite the sun constantly beaming down on the land there was an adequate amount of growth. It was very rare for rain to last more than an hour or so in the land. But, nevertheless the land strived, at least on this part of the island.
She sat there, twiddling with her pack, exhausted from what she had just been through, looked out to the sea to see what was out there. All her cares about her family, about what she was about to do seemed to drift away as she saw a small ship in the distance.
Quickly she picked herself up, glancing around to see if there were any eyes watching her, she snuck past a run-down building towards a lone dock. Her hope was that this would be her key to freedom, she was hoping, hoping she would find her answers in a place that understood. She wanted to be anywhere but here for as long as she could remember. All she ever imagined was a land where there was a moon instead of a sun, a starry night, cool wind to hit her face, and a chance to be anything she wanted.
She sat down, hoping this would be her escape at last. She could not fathom the possibilities, and yet she liked the idea of this. She waited, hoping the ship she saw in the distance would come her way. As time passed, she closed her eyes. She could feel the cool ocean breeze reaching her face. This is the best part of being on this island. she thought to herself. She let herself wander in a deep sleep. She awoke to hear footsteps on the dock. She opened her eyes, her heart skipped a beat as she stood up rather quickly. Holding her pack tightly to her chest she saw a dozen men wandering the docks and speaking in a language she could not understand. She was hoping she would be able to go wherever these men were headed after they had finished their business here, if there business here was not permanent. She wondered if she would ever be able to communicate with these people, if they would accept her aboard their ship, if they would help her leave to a place that would be better than this place....
