Montolio

Tyrion made his rounds within the island city of Ocllo. A recent acquisition for the Order of Imperial. The lands had not been intimately explored for quite some time. There was of course the initial reconnaissance phase that preluded every siege, but the surrounding country-side outside of the city-limits did not garner as much attention as more immediate areas of interest did. Nonetheless, Tyrion continued to delve deeper and deeper into the forest. He opted to move steedless, knowing that the noise would attract unwanted attention for a mission requiring stealth. He also chose to remove the regalia that normally accompanied him and identified his title as well as position within the Order. He continued to follow the well-traveled trails and then meandered off the main paths. Rivien had taught him the ways of a Ranger many years ago, and the training, mostly instinctive, had not been lost on him. He realized that his destiny was not linked with the forest as it had been for Rivien, but, having a deeper understanding of the forest life and the creatures both passive and aggressive, that dwelled in it, served a higher purpose. He was grateful to Rivien for the transfer of knowledge and thoughtfully thanked him as he continued to move through the low-ground foliage.

He noted that in certain areas, the ground was thicker than in others. The brambles could make travel through the brush land quite arduous. Tyrion continued to move quietly through the forest, as Rivien had taught him. "Careful yet direct and quiet footfalls; without stealth you risk alerting many creatures to your presence and can find yourself quickly becoming the hunted prey. Why I remember this one time. . ." Tyrion terminated the memory-lane nostalgia towards the end. Rivien always had a knack for diving head-first into experiences and stories from his life as a ranger. A sign of old-age no doubt. Rivien had quite the life, filled with adventures and did experience a lot. His wealth of knowledge served the Order well. The momentary lapse in conscious thinking backfired immediately. Tyrion miss-stepped into an ambuscade of brambles and became hopelessly entangled. He plummeted to the ground faster than he could blink and fortunately for him found that the most unfortuitous way to dislodge himself was to allow gravity to do the bulk of the work. Tyrion tumbled through the patch-work labyrinth of the hedge-maze-esque greenery. When Tyrion opened his eyes he found that he had fallen down a small hill into an open grove. He looked around and was surprised to discover a woman regarding him quite curiously. . . "Hello there," the woman said.

"Are you hurt?" the woman spoke as she moved a step towards him, but dared not be too far apart from the creature behind her. The horse-like creature behind the woman stomped one hoof and snorted frost in the air, while shaking it's silver mane. "Easy, easy," she turned her immediate attention to calm it down.

"It is beautiful." the male voice spoke. The man who fell out of no where was already on his feet and now only a few steps behind her. From his easy posture, it was obvious to see he was unharmed. Before she could warn him to be careful with the creature, as it was still a little wild, the man slowly reached out his palm, and to her surprise, the unicorn responded with a light sniff. So she slided off a step to watch those two. Judging from the speed he regained his footing, this man was agile; He was over a head taller than she was, so she had to look up if she wanted to see his face, which was somewhat covered with wet soil; And he was not afraid, even in front of this rarely-seen and newly-tamed unicorn. Her tamer instinct told her this man was strong, but from the way he handled the unicorn, she wouldn't say he was unkind. "It is beautiful." the man said again, "It's a unicorn, right? Is he yours?" He turned and she saw his eyes -- brown eyes that were a mixture of piety and desire.

"Ah, yes, I taught him that human could be trusted, but he is free to go elsewhere if he chooses to." She noticed the way the man looked at the unicorn, and she saw the gentle reflection in the unicorn's eyes. She gave the unicorn a pat on the neck."He can be yours," she said softly, "if he's willing to follow."

"Are you sure, Mrs. Pious?" the man grinned, showing his perfect teeth.

The woman's eyes widen with surprise. "Please do pardon me," the man tried to pat the dirt off his face, "My name is Tyrion ... we have met in Luna, together with your husband..." he paused at the sound of approaching hooves, and looked solemnly at the direction which it came from. A man in a dark robe trotted into sight on a muscular nightmare. "Talerco." Tyrion said.

"Tyrion! Oh, yes, the old time sure was ... hm ... exciting?" Bella Pious chuckled, as the men nodded at each other for acknowledgement. "As you can see, my husband and I are settled for peaceful life now." She smiled at the man sitting tall on the nightmare. The unicorn started exploring and sniffed Tyrion's face, which brought both Tyrion and Bella into laughter. "Lets give it a try, Tyrion. Give him a name, and then look him in the eyes and call him to you. If he follows, he will serve you until your bond is broken."

"And please call me Bella. Just Bella." she added.

Tyrion thought for a moment and then channeled the energy of the forest spirit too him. Rivien had taught him well. All those years, serving as the Head Ranger of the Order of Imperial did him justice. With one outstretched hand, palm up, Tyrion summoned forth the rolodex of names in his mind he had physically thumbed through while doing some genealogy research. He quickly shoved that book aside in his mind and grabbed another book. He began the process again. This went on for quite some time until finally he put the books down opened his eyes and realized the destrier was standing motionless, loyally in front of Tyrion within arms length. The mount met Tyrion's eyes and they locked eyes. "Montolio, come!" The steed glided over to Tyrion and lowered its head in deference, stood upright again, folded his posterior legs underneath him and eyed Tyrion intently. Within a few steps Tyrion quick-stepped forward, mounted Montolio, and they were off, dashing through back trails of the wooded isle.

The duo returned shortly after this scene. "This steed has the spirit of a true warrior in him!" Tyrion exclaimed. Bella smiled along with Talerco and began with, "I am glad you find him to your liking. It is not common that a unicorn take so quickly and with such fondness to a new master, especially a mustang." Tyrion smiled and replied, "I thank you, for providing the time required. I was quite fortunate to have, literally, stumbled across your path!" "Do not be so quick to thank me, Tyrion, normally these creatures, and animals in general, imprint on those they deem worthy," Bella stated. Tyrion thought about that as he stroked the hair in between Montolio's perked ears. He was reminded of some reference to a mythical animal that has never been seen and decided he would ask whether the stories were true, or commoner myth. "In your experience, have you ever come across a pegasus?"

"Pegasus?" Bella gave her husband a puzzled look. "It's the name people commonly call the Winged-Horse." Talerco replied, "There are some details recorded in some of the most ancient books, if I remember correctly, in the Cult...ure Library." He cleared his throat and said no more. "I am bewildered to hear that there is a record of this 'Pegasus'." Bella looked at Tyrion and continued, "I thought it was just a creature in my dream. It was a dream I had during one of the most despair time of my life. I was much younger then, but the dream was so strangely vivid it was hard to forget." She gave Talerco a zealous glance.

"What did you see in your dream?" Tyrion asked.

Bella searched in her memory. "I fell asleep in my Garden Serenity near the ocean shore of Yew. In my dream I was walking barefoot in a night forest, looking for something, or someone. I don't know, but I knew I was scared. The only thing I had in power was the sword, which I didn't even know how to wield. Then the Winged-Horse came. It's majesty made me bent on my knee and dropped my sword. I felt so powerless and even broken in front of it, but it just stood there as if it could share all the unspoken, and soon enough, there was new courage filling inside me, as if I had been nothing but an empty bag." She raised her eyes and meet Tyrion's. "It had the eyes of understanding, and something else I couldn't describe. I only know that when I woke, I found the answer to the question that troubled me the most at that time." She smiled lightly. "But it was in the past. It is curious I shall recall this memory again today. The last time it came back to me was when I met my first unicorn. Maybe on the journey ahead of you and Montolio, you would find the whereabout of this Pegasus. And when you do - if you do - please be so kind to send us a note."
