Papua's villager

Post by Aileth »

"Elise look!" yelled Elise's older brother "It's the orange capped men again!"
The Flock family lived in a modest hut by the Gentle River which flowed through the Lost Lands. Every morning, men dressed in bright orange would pass by their hut, and before nightfall they would return to town. And every day and noon, Elise would wait by the door and wave at them. Their clothing reminded her of a phoenix and no matter how many times they'd pass by their house, she would be delighted with the show.
One morning, she sneaked out headed to the center of Papua, when a group armed men ran by her in the opposite direction, leaving a strong scent of blood in the air. Their weapons were covered in blood, but they were so busy running they didn't notice her.
Elise hid behind a bush and waited for them to disappear from sight. Then, she ran to the banker, He ought to know something about those men, she thought.
As she got closer, she could see bodies, human and animal throughout town. Some of them, orange coated men! She was in shock. As she walked the scenery got worse, more wounded animals, more wounded innocent citizens. Tears started rolling down her cheecks with anger, when a voice called her. "Come, my dear. Come to the Temple."
Surprised, she looked around but no one was next to her. She ran to Papua's Temple and as she reached it, the voice came back "Here my dear, is where my emissaries were. I would like you to help us. Follow the path behind this temple and you will meet someone who's very dear to me."
'Me? Help the orange coated men? But... I'm just a girl' she wondered.
"Fear not, it's not size that matters, it's a matter of Faith." the voice ecoed in her head.
She walked the road behind the temple, frightened, although her tears had stopped, her heart could jump out of her chest at any time. Looking far down the road, she could spot an orange coloured figure, but she could not have been prepared for that. Her face turned pale at first, her eyes widened and she felt a shiver from the bottom of her spine to the tips of her hair.
In front of her was a Phoenix with all it's might. The phoenix starred into Elise's eyes, deep into her feelings and thoughts, and after a long stare, it lowered it's head as if it was bowing to her. She slowly walked up to the phoenix and extended her hand. The heat of the phoenix was so intense, Elise was a little scared.
Then, the phoenix pulled off one of it's feathers and put it in Elise's hand.
"This is proof of your faith, keep it as a token of our encounter. You are welcome to help us keep balance in this world."
"T-thank you." Elise muttered.
Sometime after, all the villagers were forced to abbandon Papua, and so she traveled through Felluca. On her travels she studied many animals, how they ate, how they related to humans, until she felt ready to come by Imperial's new Temple, now in Moonglow.
