Okay...

So it's already 60ms before even leaving the US, jumping the ocean adds 70ms and our end (Euro) is less than 25ms. I doubt you can do much to kill the ping. Some players have contacted their ISP for a straighter line, and have cut 20-30ms. Nevertheless, a lagfree connection from Texas is most likely impossibru. Even players from East Coat avoid dragons and other fast mobs.

If you did not lag 9 years ago, that's most likely because you were using a 3.xx client on POL95, which had better packet handling than POL96. The shard switched to POL96 around 2006. 3.xx clients no longer work on POL96 and 3D clients are banned, so basically you're left with what you have. It's possible we'll have better packet handling in the future, when we upgrade POL, but that's a long project and we're talking of many many months if not years.

Ah well, thanks for the time you spent looking at it. I knew the ping wouldn't go down, I was just hoping there was some obvious reason that I didn't know about for the lag on horseback.

Would it be possible just to unban the 3d client so the US players could actually play? I'd just like to be able to PvM. Not interested in the PvP, but if it were to make other players faster in that aspect I'm sure there are some that wouldn't care. As long as they were able to just play, you know? Maybe increase the player base. As it looks right now there definitely aren't many people playing. Just a thought.

Sincerely,

Unfortunately the 3D ban will stick. 3D clients simply create more problems than they solve.

Currently there is no equal solution for both Euro and US folks.

Still, is it possible there is something client-based that causes stutter/lag? I regularly have a 1-2 second lag when playing, as well as the "black tiles" described by Stormay. The ping/ms thingy is much lower on my end than Stormay's, yet we both experience the same issue.

To be sure, I don't know if there is anything wrong on the client-end side of things, just wondering out loud.

Since your ping is kickass, the problem has something to do with your computer. If it's client based, you're most likely the first one. So I'd put my money on other software (firewall?) instead.

Weird I am in San Antonio, TX and I hardly lag on my mount its fairly smooth.

Maybe it is a computer issue for you Stormay? I am not at home to do a uotrace though currently.

This is what I think it is, I really don't think its a latency issue. It just doesn't seem like it, especially since it's reliably every 4th step is a stutter.

I've tried installing with only the pang file, admin mode, compatibility mode, etc. So I doubt it's an easy fix, whatever the problem.

Out of curiosity, what windows are you running?

Might be a fluke, but have you tried checking the "Disable Visual Themes" box in the Compatibility tab? I did, and I have the impression Pang is running smoother now.
