yeah i think the main problem is the lack of time/resources. of course it's doable to upgrade pol but it would require no development in any other areas and total focus on that.
hell, it's even doable to remake pangaea in runuo, but it takes a lot of time and patience from scripters.
you know what else is possible?a completely new shard too! of course it's possible, doesn't mean it's a smart move, unless we had more scripters who could focus on that in the background while we were playing this shard.

boris, what do you mean by hoping?can't ares and wille or someone understand exactly what will happen when you upgrade?since it's even used in other shards and other ppl use it?and ares having the testshard and all..
i don't understand how something that was supposed to do this then turns out the other way :D

Works or not, we're still talking of months of work. All on Ares.

What are the announced improvements of POL98 vs POL96 by the POL team?

The changelog is too huge to list, but just take a look at the functionality: POL 96 vs POL 98. There's a lot more functionality in 98.

Bugfixes (core functionality, memory leaks and so on), improved functions, a crapload of new features (for example, messing with core attackspeed is not possible in 96, in 98 it is), new libraries available from other developers etc. Its exactly the same as upgrading any other program from version 2 to version 4.

But yeah, Boris is right, it is a fairly large task. When we upgraded from 95 to 96 we spent 1-1½ months testing I think, and here we're skipping a version. I'd love to do it though, and it needs to be done at some point if we want to keep Pangaea evolving, since we're limited compared to 98.

the force is strong with this one.

i sense a great holy power coming from you

you can do it!

joking aside, i understand that it's a hard job and i don't mind keeping this as they are, there are loads of room for improvement even to balance the stuff we're dealing with atm, so it's fine to have pol96 but if you feel it needs upgrading to pol98 at some point, do it!

If we upgraded, would we have to start again or would we get characters transferred? Just pondering.

All data will be transferred. I haven't seen any incompatability issues with that (but then again, haven't extensively tested it).

ares, you have the perfect opportunity to make fullwipe happen!

*transfers data from pol 96 to pol 98*

"oh no!something happened!and it wasn't tek altar!"

there. everyone will start from 0, creating new chars, seeing more blue letters, being happier. and no one will blame you for an error than didn't exist but no one knows that it was your choice to make fullwipe!

don't tell anyone i told you this, it's our secret.
