When Max talks about roleplaying, it's usually about writing text in general. Whether it's talking or emoting usually doesn't matter. I got ahead of a round of explenations and wrote the part below immediatly. If what he actually meant was that roleplaying doesn't need talking because people can use emotes instead, I stand corrected. But the typical argument is that you don't have to write anything in game to roleplay, which I am against.
1. Writing = expression. If you express nothing, you don't roleplay. Remember, a mute would still emote.

I will say you can roleplay by yourself, training a skill is not a good example however I have seen some players that roleplay by themselves alot with everything they do and even NPCS. I have seen rare players that roleplay everything they do and everywhere they go. Roleplaying a hermit is easier done with posts on roleplaying story and such, but I suppose you can do it, I have seen people roleplay someone who couldnt speak quite nicely. Quests arnt mandatory for anyone, I have even allowed natures that were hunting stay away from tekstone quests. However your thing about not talking could be roleplay the issue is everyone does that unless they need to say a quick comment. Gms dont make judgements on roleplay off one sight of bad roleplay or one special incident, we view everyone and add it all together the good and the bad.
