Did he get his character restored?Tyrion wrote: What is the current policy? Orin deleted his priest (when he was HP of Law) and within a few days had his character back IG. It's not much of a policy if it is only adhered too once and a while.

Haven't heard or such a case. There are no marks/notes on his account about it, nor does the character exist. If a character has been deleted, it still seems to be deleted.Tyrion wrote:What is the current policy? Orin deleted his priest (when he was HP of Law) and within a few days had his character back IG. I'm don't know how accounts are lost as it is. I just remember a discussion around 2005-2006, when Repsak was asking the players how long it should take for an inactive account to vanish. I think back then 24 or 36 months was the result. If that's not the reason for accounts being lost, it's simply due to all the administration changes. The shard has gone from Denmark to US to Denmark to Germany. I know at least Alteran and folks used some old copy when restarting P1.
Bringing back "old account that have been wiped" is plausible, even if I don't agree on it. Rage quitting is a clear no-no. I understand cases like "I logged drunk and deleted my character accidentally" if you contact the staff immediately.
I don't think starting over has ever been this easy. There's no newbie robbing, we have DGW's 3-4 times a year, skill books, newbie dungeons, etc. etc. Even I started 2 times all over again as a player - and those thing would of been nothing but a dream.

It's happened often in the past Boris. It seemed to be up to the discression of the individual staff member though.

Never heard of any cases during our administration. If there's something to dig into, we'll dig into it.Ares wrote:It's happened often in the past Boris. It seemed to be up to the discression of the individual staff member though.

If "our administration" means since you've been here, then no. Me neither. I was referring to before that.Boris wrote:Never heard of any cases during our administration. There's no me in team! For a split second I thought something this big could happen behind my back. Phew! I'll take back "no refunds for 5 years" and switch it to 3 years. I can't answer for the previous administration... nor do I want to. Even if I was a part of it (or the remains of it).Ares wrote:If "our administration" means since you've been here, then no. Nonetheless, Ares or Kevin could check if there's a script destroying account after x time of inactivity. That would be my guess, but I could be wrong as well. If that doesn't explain things, then I'd guess the previous administration demolished some old data at some point.

I bet you mean the great itemwipe, they removed accounts that had been inactive for six months and loaded 6 month old saves... Lost quite a bit skills, and one or two characters... etc. nothing bigger.Boris wrote:There's no me in team! For a split second I thought something this big could happen behind my back. Phew! Re: Potential policy change re: restoring characters
Sadly i cannot find the exact information that Alteran spread from the itemwipe, but there was some talk of recovering some of the accounts. Some old save or something perhaps? Cannot be sure, we'd need to find the post about that wipe. But ofcourse thats a thing that was in the old forums also.
Re: Potential policy change re: restoring characters
I dont see any problem with restoring peoples deleted chars no matter whether they were drunk, ragequit or gave up UO for a year and I've no idea why others consider it a problem either.
The 'get over it , its your fault anyway' kind of stance makes absolutely no sense to me with the playerbase and shard activity as dismal as it is. Surely the playerbase and staff together should be doing whatever we can to attract both new players and bring old players back.
The only issue could be how much work is needed to be done to get someones char back and I have no idea about that. Other than that no-one as yet has given any reasons why they dont want people to be able to get their deleted/expired chars back.
