Vampire surely isn't junk, they're lesser auros. Cheap, effective and good even in their current form. If you want to boost your elemental resistance, just add cloud giant boots and a gorget - or - perhaps a spesific resistance (i.e. fire, magic) with something cheaper.

For the non-auro-wearing hunter, no more vampire; 24 fire and 24 energy

my opinion is vampires still because if you get hit by a monster you dont know which elemental damage it does... also if you would want just to be able to resist spell simply largehumanoid would be good...
