"They" would be grammatically correct as it can refer to any noun that has been established or implied. The target would set the establishment both literally and also implicitly ( in case the character does not state such in their dialogue in game such as with discordance instead of taming)
Generally this applies to only living things so for discordance, which can only target living things, it's correct.

Here's a typo: When you get your magic reflection spell penetrated, it says
"your magic reflection spell has been penetratet"

Most all of the books in the newbie start area on the desks are full of grammatical errors and typos.
