Your top tips for new players!

Hey guys,

I think it would be nice for players to have some sort of resource on the forums/wiki that players can summarise a few handy hints. One post per player, as many tips as you want. Just don't give the entire game away, exploration/discovery is part of the experience. I read something Darian posted and it sparked this idea.

As an example:

1) Until you have multiple characters, it is wise to avoid religions all together.
2) Anatomy is key to healing better and faster. So train it first!
3) Sometimes, even low hiding can be an excellent tool to escape danger or AFK when you cannot access an inn/your home
4) Vampire bone armour is great for new players and oldies alike as it provides a minimum all elemental resist.
5) Cooks could be considered a great starting merchant due to their versatility and ability to sell to vendors with profit.

The wiki for the lazy ones
We could put this in the New Player guide for example: The link to that

I met a totally new player the other day and walked her through the basics of things you need to do to start out. She was new to both ultima and pangaea and the amount of things she needed to learn just to be able to play the game makes for a very harsh learning curve.

A friend of mine that tried out the game said much of the same, the learning curve is a brick wall, the only substitute for someone holding your hand is something like the wiki or the web page whos info is very scattered, hard to find and even outdated at parts.

+1 to this

My top tip is to play 1 character as long as possible, without creating multiple characters you get to learn quickly about the shard. Avoiding religions aint necessary in my opinion, because religious players are realy big help with their uoam into learning stuff about pangaea.

From this link you can find class specific training tips, how it'd be effective to proceed, but i'd more encourage new players still to go out and discover stuff. There is always someone who can rescue you if things go bad.

1. Don't hurry into PvP or religions. Take your time getting to know your character, the game and most of all the people.

2. Being polite can go a long way.

3. The Order of Law and especially the Order of Nature is always a good place to start your religion career. From Law and Nature you can always easily apply to both Imperial and Tekstone, but going from Imperial or Tekstone to Law and Nature might not be that easy.

4. As cool as going red and murderer might sound like, avoid doing it until you are absolutely certain you don't miss being blue. Therefore, before doing so you should have at least:
1) A house to hide into
2) A group of friends to hunt with
3) Different merchant friends to work with

Newbie tip - Due to their high natural regeneration and proficiency with any weapon and armor Warriors make a great class for new players and old players alike.

Newbie tip - Almost everything in the world has value - watch the forums for easy things to collect and make money. Feathers and gems can make your pocketbook heavy.

Disregard that, their low healing makes them not as easy as you'd think. (And rather annoying)

Disregard this. 1st hand experience. My account is slightly longer than a year old. I was able to finance my Mage like a week after creating my warrior. They are by far easiest for newbs.

Edit: and the reason is. Noobs still have to train healing so it doesn't matter if they get 65 or 85 when their healing is only 40 a warrior is VASTLY superior to any class while poking around despise.

Will be true for newbies who don't play games alot, players who have experience in other games will not let healing stay so low very long.

Newbie tip - Due to their high natural regeneration and proficiency with any weapon and armor Warriors can make a great class for learning the basics of the shard.

That would be more like it

That's fair I suppose.

Don't drink and drive - smoke and fly

This applies to UO also i've woken up plenty of times as a ghost with no actual memory of why or how I died
