Lets discuss the mayor system so far

Post by Ert »

Lets foucs more here on what is in the system already, more than what should be added.

Since the mayor system got implemented you finally see players trying to manage the towns somewhat. They fire the vendors that dont make any money. One of these is the shipwright, no one buys those boats and the only other item on the list is the sextant - something they sell for free. Will this lead to all shipwrights everywhere beeing fired making the only source for boats be carpentry?
^Ninja buff to carpenters/tinkers/bowers.

This can go the other way tho, there are a select few NPCs of certain types, like the assassin and thief. Those two vendor train skills impossible go get from other vendors for example. The mapmaker training cartography is another one.
Some might be one of the rare ways to get resources impossible to get any other way, like the bucher that sells raw sausages and lard.
^If those get fired it might make things harder for new characters, it makes them harder for them to start out.
Would you like to macro skills like charto, stealing, snooping, poisoning, stealth and lockpicking from 0? I know i wouldnt

What other things come to mind?

Key NPCs should be marked and removed entirely from the system, as to not cause a "broken" issue for certain classes early on.

Just a sidenote, I left at least 1 of every vendor type that was availlable in britain, so it wont affect new players trying to vendor train skills.

I plan to suggest so that taxes affect prices at which vendor sells item and that the increased price go to the city funds, but have been lazy about it.

Certain vendors were completely useless in skara, as an example everyone knows there is shipwright in britain... Who'd go find one from skara to begin with?

Besides of that I clearly stated, if someone wants me to hire a vendor into town, they can contact me via ICQ to discuss about the matter.

Other than that, I have no intention of removing the thief at skara. I bet everyone understands, if its only one of that type of vendor in the whole shard, it shouldnt be removed.

Income tax sounds good indeed. Also, if players pay taxes for their houses, why don't vendors? Or at least rent? Some less attractive vendors could pay higher rents so that it would be worthwhile to have them, otherwise some vendors will just disappear from the entire map, like Zano mentioned.

There should have been a map limit on all kind of Npc's, or we will end up with one of each in every town.

And if you then think this will make the sinkhole desapire, make a system so that towns can 'hi-jack' npc's from other towns by paying them an amount of gold that was higher than what the town paid. By this you can get some kind of smaller town wars (not that we need more) where towns can 'steal' npc from each other.

Sounds convenient. Why do you consider that a bad thing?

We discussed implementing hard limits on how many NPC's of each type you can have in a town but ended up doing the exponential cost of each additional vendor to have some flexibility.

There is limit for the npc amount already, the price will be quite high to pay. Smaller cities cant have all the possible vendors and if someone sells a house, you lose income instantly.

Besides of that, give me ability to kick people out of the city, Im bored of reading the RP forums for another whine post because someone's tax went up from 7'500 to 15'000...

And I am eager to see when I can change the locations of existing vendors.

Heh, I've loved those threads. Elections, people demanding stuff from the mayors etc. It's hilarious.

Ha, this! Give the mayors some authority over their respective towns. Liiike the ability to yell "Guards arrest!" to detain misbehaving citizens or let them slap people with fines for disrespecting the town or not paying taxes in time. Now that would be fun!

Mayors are still on the religion leaders' leash so if there's abuse they wouldn't stay a mayor for long. Could bring some interesting interaction between characters, hihiih.
