Speedhack - I think I know what I talk about

To admins - why the 3D client and POL96 are incompatible, and why is this making people flee to modern UO server emulators. I think I really really know what I talk about.

When POL96 was introduced, only 2D client existed. 2D client had clientside movement speed restriction. The higher serverside speed limit that 3D uses on POL96 is in reality meant for GM, Admin, Seer, so that they could move faster than players.

Later OSI made a 3D client, which didn't have a clientside movement speed restriction, because the problem had, on OSI, been already solved serverside (probably due to speedhackers). They made a different serverside speed limit for gamemaster/seer/admin than just a player. They didn't think of freeshards based on POL96 when they decided to not place a clientside speed limit to 3D.

POL96 has only one serverside restriction, this is GM/Admin/Seer speed, which is faster than player speed. Players are made to run slower than admins by simply placing a clientside speed restrictment to 2D. Due to speedhackers running with admin/gm/seer speed appearing, OSI changed this before introducing the 3D client. So, on POL96 it's possible to be a player and use admin/gm/seer speed by using 3D client which is incompatible with POL96, or speedhacked 2D.

Thus, using 3D on Pangaea is the same as using speedhack. Legalize speedhack. Give it a try run and see if problems arise or if players are actually more satisfied. The modern server hardware should have no problem with it + low playerbase.

Sorry for being repetitive, but I realized 3D already is the same as abusing client/server incompatibility bug. POL96 has no other option but to let people move at GM/admin/seer speed because of the difference of 2D and 3D.

Also UO uses TCP, not UDP, so after sending a command "move one north" to the server, my client receives "moved one north" from the server, before that it won't try to send another command, I guess.

I almost feel Cheat Engine should be included in PangaeaSetupComplete, like UO_RICE is included.

One of the reasons that makes a POL96 shard crappy for PvP especially, and only one way to fix this is to let everyone move with admin/seer/gm speed.

I suggest: the only solution really. A month of legal speedhacking (130% speed should do the trick), then get reviews from players, reconsider if they disliked it. And see if the shard crashes because of it or not.

--------------

Translated to Danish too as the admins are Danish, with my awesome Google Translate tool just to see if it's good. :D

Legalisere speedhack. Give it a try køre og se, hvis der opstår problemer, eller hvis spillerne er faktisk mere tilfredse.

dont think that the 3d was ment for the admins or gms , it was ment to go from 2d to 3d at some point , and i belive they had to start at some point , the reason for the change in speed i think is because , they found out that the moment speed in the 2d version was not up to date at all , then they did change it anyway , to fix it in a later version of pol .
my guess it that it is fixed in one of the other pol updates there are , since it a problem that affects everyone.
i would perfere that all players could move with the same speed , making everything just right.

Really couldn't be arsed to read more than a few lines, but 3d client was out far before Pol96. Being said that the rest is most likely garbage trying to somehow get speed-hack legalized again.

I checked and yes you are right, it was based on an assumption, but a logical one really, because to me it seems extremely stupid that commercial clients for a game that made and makes loads of money for OSI have different movement speeds and to me the only logical explanation was that POL96 just is not compatible with 3D, as on modern RunUO shards 3D and 2D apparently have the same speed.

Conclusion: things just are extremely stupid.

Case closed!

And really IDC if speedhack is legalized or not personally, but like, the only argument against I remember seeing was "if speedhack is legalized, soon people will start to use all cheats" aka "Gateway Hack Theory" and some said it "lags the server"

Okay

- using 3D doesn't lag the server
- using speedhack lags the server
- detecting speedhack is possible
- I never heard of anyone being jailed for speedhack
- smoking marijuana makes you a crack cocaine addict
- 1+1=3

Gotta live with it :D

(No, to be serious, I believe the ones who have experience with running UO shards know these things better and may as well know better what lags the shard and what doesn't)

And still edit:

The most annoying situation is when you are surprised by a hostile 3D user, using 2D. I've tried different techniques such as switching quickly to 3D and fleeing, it has worked. Would be easier tho, if I (or anyone for that matter) could just press the "emergency key" and GTFO ASAP - "speedhack legal only if very necessary". In regular PvM and such activities the running speed doesn't matter much anyway.

And to those who get annoyed of me bringing up an "issue from the past", my apologies, it's not my intent.

IF the emergency key can really be detected, as some say and which I tend to mostly disbelieve (not to offend anyone). I disbelieve because I personally know many people who used it and never had a problem. In the end I didn't want to snitch anyone because I thought it's OK (anyway, I wanted everyone to know why the two fockers started to run faster than you, suddenly, one&same day, thus I tried to make the issue as public as possible within the limits&laws) :P

- Overwritten data cannot be retrieved from hard drives, physically damaged hard drives are a different story - data can be retrieved

- Finnish coppers can't catch the guy who used Tor (the onion router) to threaten finnish MP's with murder, and openly admit it

But okay, if emergency key can be detected, take a screenshot of the situation in which you use it and you should be safe.

AND if the emergency key would be legalized 100% would it really matter? Would it lag the shard really? It's 2009, not 2003, playerbase <20 online, not 140 online.

Still, not wanting to offend anyone, just to throw in ideas for a POL96 with friendly intent.

And you did counter-argument well, but considering you only counter-argumented one of my arguments, I still am not satisfied. Neither do I think you have anything to say but full-of-self-esteem-crap with no tech specs to support it. Go get Nobel prize or something.

(sorry for being a flaming basic Panger, try to understand)
