Compulsory PvP courtesy <> RP

Roleplaying means you act as your character would. In real life I do all kinds of crimes, but as I am a Law, I play virtuous and so on... that is RP.

PvP courtesy is that you give your opponent time to react before killing or attacking.

Compulsory PvP courtesy.. good example: Pangaea rule based "you must wait 30 seconds until you attack... and you must explain why you attack"

Anyone who RP's a dumb a55 pacifist may want to talk, but unless you do not RP such guy, you would be a dork to talk. In most cases excessive talking before attacking is "moronic" and thus UN-RP, unless you RP a moron.

So, you are confusing ROLEPLAY and PVP COURTESY.

I am not suggesting rule changes, but as an intellectual I prefer the terms used correctly and suggest we stop talking about "lack of RP" and use "lack of shard rule based compulsory PvP courtesy" instead.

PS: Thanks to Lorendia crew (Aznar, Gambit, Palma) for realizing this. Loved PvP on Lorendia! Otherwise, the shard... well, class balance was nice too. But customization lacked heavily and the map was horrible. I wish we had a Pangaea with Lorendia's PvP class balance and PvP ruleset.

Imo if enemy does not respond you should give him 30 seconds time sicne he might be afk etc.

But if he responds you simply give him choice to give items or die. As law you dont realy need to give a choice you just go there and tell that him that he is enemy of law because of his crimes and will not be forgiven, ofc again without response you give 30 seconds time to respond.

in robberies i would prefer to be a bit faster about it if victim answers 30 seconds is pretty long time imo just to rp...

example.

HALT

Give me your armours and weapons or die!

... (for 30 seconds while the noobie keeps hurr durring around and talking nonsense)

Die!

There's a big flaw in this rule, journal has no time stamp, hard to prove he didn't wait 30 seconds.

Mayday delay would only lead to people being robbed before the mayday is sent. Although it would make perfect RP sense that the message, the pigeons sent with the mayday takes a moment to reach the nearest towns. But then again attacking on sight would make perfect RP-sense too, but we can't have it all.

The 30 second rule has always been more like a guide-line, in other words "Do not attack on sight. Instead, give him some time to react, respond, answer and either agree or disagree to give the items". The truth is if you actually have a clock ticking next to you the 30 seconds feels like a forever.

Of course with the exception of the guy looking afk. If he stands still, won't respond, won't move, then you can give him 30 seconds to respond. But as long as there's talking, going around, it's enough that you get the conversation to an end.

And in religion fights there has almost never been a 30 seconds "RP" conversation before an attack. It's always someone rushing into fight, even if you just try to have a nice chat. Or at least I've always noticed the other side - cough, Elya, cough - going "Let's get this over with!" and attack even when you're in the middle of a conversation. I admit, some of our side do it as well and it's equally annoying. Since when did PvP go over RP is beyond me. Although I do know the answer, it was the religion "fix" when newbies were allowed high status in a religion without actually earning it. You give a loaded gun to a kid's hand and you know the out-come. Without earning it they never learned to respect and enjoy the RP-aspect. I learned not only to RP and write stories but all my English while playing in Pangaea. If someone else had to earn their high piety and head status of a religion through heavy RP and constant writing of stories and quest-lines, they would learn to enjoy it as much as I did - and learn English in the side rendering all the same old excuses of "I'm not good at English" invalid. But this is just me going on again with how much shit the religions are nowadays.

Maybe I'm just one of those old farts waving their fists to the kids these days, cursing how things used to be so much better - although in reality they were shit even then, but different shit.

In the old days, you could even RP out of a fight because *some* people actually read what you said instead of copy pasting "I shall kill you, for you are evil".

Time machine anyone?

Roleplaying, the level of it and everything in it comes from the players themselves.

Hopefully some day people will realize, the coolest guys aren't the ones wearing the best items or the ones with ancient characters. Forget items and skills, it's all about RP.
