Server options wrote:1) Running Pangaea from Irming's home cost roughly 25€/month (300€ a year). Irming's server runs with the following specs:
  • Pentium 4 3 Ghz
    2 GB RAM
    8 mbs / 0,8 mbs
2) Running Pangaea on the tryout server costs roughly 50€/month (600€ a year). The tryout server runs with the following specs:
  • AMD Opteron 1210 CPU with 2 x 1,8 GHz
    2 x 200 GB HDDs
    2 GB DDR2 RAM
    100 mbps Flatrate
3) Running Pangaea on an upgraded server costs roughly 55€/month (660€ a year). The upgraded server runs with the following specs:
  • AMD Athlon X2 4850e CPU with 2 x 2,5 GHz
    2 x 500 GB HDDs
    4 GB DDR2 RAM
    100 mbps Flatrate
4) Running Pangaea on a pro server costs roughly 85€/month (1020€ a year). The pro server runs with the following specs:
  • Intel XEON E3 1230 CPU with 4 x 3,2 GHz and HT
    2 x 1.000 GB Enterprise-HDDs
    16 GB DDR3 ECC Server-RAM
    1000 mbps Fairflat
  • Upgrading dedicated server connection from 100 to 1000 costs 10€/month (120€ a year). Can be done on options 2) and 3).
  • There's 255€ on Irming's Paypal as we speak. The current line is paid from those funds.
Those are basicly the options for Pangaea. If we recieve enough donations to buy a dedicated server for a full year (12 months), we can do that as the owners of Pangaea (Irming, Neon, Alteran) gave us a green light. How good of a server depends on how much donations are recieved. A dedicated server would run purely on 2D and 3D would no longer be an option. If you wish to play with 3D, Irming's server is good enough for that.

Basicly to buy option 3), wich I see as the best choice, we're missing (660€-255€=) 405€. If you think we should buy dedicated server, here's info from the website on how to donate.
Donations wrote:We are a free shard and we do not expect any money from our playerbase, but if you want to spare a coin or another, you are allowed to do so. All donations will go to the benefit of the shard. With donations we can updgrade server hardware and server connection.

We accept donations with Paypal. Send your donations to Claus@knoechel.dk.

If it removes the use of 3d I would quite happily make a donation towards a dedicated server.

Won't a dedicated *nix server be cheaper?

12 months paid upfront and a Windows support - and we have a green light.

No donations, back to Irming's server and 3D.

Also unicorns are pretty rare in Greece!

Now I'd like to try to ask this again, hoping for a coherent answer:

Owners prefer Windows over Linux. Nothing more to it.

If you have donated and your name is on Irming's list, you can contact me or any member of the staff for a small gift.
