Portugal aren't one of the 4 best teams, Ronaldo has basically been playing on his own at this tournament. Him and Nani are on a totally different wavelength than the rest of that team, and Raul Meireles has looked totally out of his depth in every game so far.

If Portugal proceed any further I doubt it will be thanks to anybody other than that boy Ronaldo.

Please, tell me how bad Pepe, Fabio Coentrao, Bruno Alves and João Pereira have been playing... Everybody who says that Portugal = Ronaldo knows few about football...Yes, he is a major player with huge visibility but he is no "playing on his own at this tournament"...

IMO Raul Meireles is the worst player atm...that i agree with you...

as far as the other players go, we have one of the best teams.

if we had a striker as good as those that germany or spain or any other freaking team except for ours have, we'd probably win without a problem

Portugal midfield could be better too... but Striker is the big problem here... Helder Postiga and Hugo Almeida suck... Nelson Oliveira is too young... I saw his games last year when Portugal did 2 place in the world championship sub 20 and I tell you...he played really well!

What bothers me a bit is when people say that Portugal is Ronaldo + 10 players... Ronaldo is one of the best player in the world (if not the best...) but football is a team sport and Portugal has a good team.

Btw I am not saying Portugal is the best team... I would put my coins in Germany winning this Euro, or maybe Spain if "they" keep helping them... as Platini said he would like to see Germany vs Spain in the final and that says everything!

I just found it odd that two Portuguese fans would have such objections to my opinion about their national side, can't see why you two wouldn't be objective about it

As for Ronaldo, he's had 29 shots, 14 on target, that's more than some of the teams that have been knocked out of the competition, he's also the highest rated player at the tournament, rated above the entire Spanish and German sides. In fairness Pepe has been solid and Coentrao has performed at a decent level, but without Ronaldo, Portugal would have gone home a long time ago, and if you look back, they never would have qualified without him. You put Norway out on goal difference and went through by the skin of your teeth. Any objective football fan can tell you that Portugal are nothing without Ronaldo, and you certainly wouldn't have the quality to live with the other teams in the semi's.

Ronaldo is the centerpiece of the Portuguese team, no doubt of that! But because we have perhaps the best player in the competition we cannot devalue the rest of the team.

Well that is fair enough, the point that I was trying to make is that the Portugal team is not on the same level as Spain, Italy and Germany, the fact that Ronaldo plays compensates and makes you a dangerous opposition. It was the same with Manchester United, once he left, we have never quite been the same, even though we still have a decent team, but we now are not quite in the same class as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, just because we lack a player like Ronaldo, who can change a game, Rooney is as close as we've got now, but still not as effective on his own as Ronaldo was.
