Re: Old piety system
i don't necessarily think it should be about sucking up, but rather the RP that you put forth, if your doing mega amounts of RP, changing the history, making new history, making a noticeable effort to put forth some great RP and an excellent story and reason behind it, your god would maybe see you as a worthy man in his/her eyes and decides to grant you more power to fulfill your task at hand, that sorta thing, not just "I've been here for 3weeks give me my god damn pieteh beeetchhh" it shouldn't be something your entitled to but more so something you have to earn the right to it, and continue to put forth the effort to keep it, not just be given out like candy.
Re: Old piety system
Everything about this is wrong. The best way to play the game is to chose a class and play it to its abilities. It should not get stronger or weaker based on popularity with the GM's.KrondorZuula wrote:i don't necessarily think it should be about sucking up, but rather the RP that you put forth, if your doing mega amounts of RP, changing the history, making new history, making a noticeable effort to put forth some great RP and an excellent story and reason behind it, your god would maybe see you as a worthy man in his/her eyes and decides to grant you more power to fulfill your task at hand, that sorta thing, not just "I've been here for 3weeks give me my god damn pieteh beeetchhh" it shouldn't be something your entitled to but more so something you have to earn the right to it, and continue to put forth the effort to keep it, not just be given out like candy.

Re: Old piety system
It's understandable, krondor, that someone would be stronger because he really commits to his deity blabla.
the thing is, having different levels of piety sufficient to make chars a lot stronger or not, means there will always be piety chars way above the balanced level and piety chars below the balanced level when compared to non piety chars that remain always at the same power.
Because of stuff that like mike says, have nothing to do with your skills and the way you play that specific class.
With the piety system, all one has to do is wait and sooner or later piety will come naturally to him, even when it was a hard thing to get piety. All you'd have to do is wait and rp and it wil happen. Everyone else may wait forever and rp and it won't happen.
If old piety system were to happen, I would only agree to it if there was a 50% chance that you'd be below the balanced level due to low piety. At the moment people are not afraid of that, they just know they will atleast be as good as any other class. Just hide for a few weeks until you have 30 piety or so. You can only expect to be better. If not, don't worry, no harm will come to you. Even if there was downsides to it, it would be a bit more fair, but still not good since it has nothing to do with IG skills and your skills.

Re: Old piety system
I could be wrong but my assumption is that the current piety system has been in place for quite some time and may have elements of scripting implemented that make NOT leveraging the "old piety system," so to speak, probably inefficient from a recycling source code POV.Glarundis wrote:It's understandable, krondor, that someone would be stronger because he really commits to his deity blabla.

Re: Old piety system
I dont believe there will ever be a piety system that pleases everyone, theres winners and losers no matter what system there is.
The old piety systems main negative point was favouritism from staff to players. The new system is favouritism from players to players. However, unlike the old system the new system also means that there are a fixed number of 8 high piety positions (assuming each religions HP chooses to have 60 piety). This can be looked at in two ways and comes down to personal opinion 1) there are less high piety priests around therefore non-religious fighter classes are boosted or 2) The gap between the majority of players and the 'elite' few is widened.
One possible solution is to cap all piety at 40, which is widely regarded as being as good as a well trained archer/knight/ barbarian which would be more balanced. But then we lose other things... like fearing a HP, religion/shard politics and ambition to gain power which some players would consider as being important parts of the shard.
Like I mentioned earlier, I dont think there is any easy solution that would please everyone.

Re: Old piety system
Imo id like to see it abolished and have a more stable fixed damage/bless system where one class isnt the must have.
Open up head of religion slot to monk/knight/ranger/priest/monk (this position is purly for rp not to be uber)

Maybe, just maybe, if by being religious with high piety you'd kick ass through rites, ppl would play a religous char the religious (rites) way.
What happens is that you play the religious chars as a fighter with uber blesses and healing. Piety is just an extra that those chars have, not the main thing.
But this has been discussed before when ernil tried to change priest.
But face it, what we have now is priests as fighters with extra boosts due to piety.
This is not good.period. Either we adjust religious chars so they kick ass with their rites, or we stop having piety, because clearly it's not serving its purpose, it's just an extra for some classes that in the end play like a normal knight/barbarian whatever would.
Re: Old piety system
We could have that added to the current system, but not ofcourse HP. SiC could be any class in my opinion.Biggs wrote:Open up head of religion slot to monk/knight/ranger/priest/monk (this position is purly for rp not to be uber)

To be sure people won't be switching/testing around with that spot, we could also make a timer to SiC-spot. Something like SiC can be changed once in 3 months or so.
