you can find ppl in game and makes friends/ppl to hunt with that way
of course, it's a lot easier to be in a guild since you'll then have a group of people sharing uoam/icq numbers, etc
look for the wayfarers, they can help you get started and i suppose they may know of someone else who is starting and needs a friend to hunt with.
or, who knows, some other "new" players will answer to this post aswell
i wish we had greater playerbase for this, but these are the times..

I will gladly do it as long as I have enough time to roam around. Stay around, you will see it is well worth it!

Hey, Jonny. I'm not much into hunting monsters myself, but my characters are always up for some roleplay. If you see my character Ripkin hanging out at the Brit inn, she can provide you with some healing/curing potions, cooked ribs and weird company.
And yeah, the Wayfarers in general help new players, so don't hesitate to ask them for help or advice. You can find some free gear in the Wayfarer guild house that's on the north side of Britain (it's decorated with yellow curtains). There's a room with two training dummies and some boxes where you can find some slightly enchanted armor to help you train.
(A tip for some of the more advanced players: you can leave magical stuff you don't need in those very same boxes).
