I've been following the progress of this game for a year now and if all is well, the alpha is released the end of this year and the game the end of next year.
The question is, are there anyone else eagerly waiting for an awesome space simulation game by the none else than the maker of the original Wing Commander games, Privateers and Freelancer?

I've been eagerly awaiting this for the last few years:
http://www.infinity-universe.com/
It is (it'll be) an MMOG with progressive worlds where you can just fly in and out of stratospheres and land on planets that the gameserver will keep generating automatically. I don't know how the rest will pan out but just the idea of progressive worlds is badass.

Re: Star Citizen: Squadron 42
I haven't ever played "space simulator" games, but I'm beginning to seriously consider it- I'm just thinking about the cost per month/per year, need to find a job as soon as I graduate to pay for all that phun!
Re: Star Citizen: Squadron 42
Anybody know if there will be a component IG that allows you to pay for the game (per month / year) IRL, similar too EVE Online?

I'm not sure how EVE is or what you exactly mean, but if you mean do you have to pay a monthly fee then no. If you want though you can subscribe for a monthly 10$ or 20$ dollar donation... which then will give you small rewards.
The whole game is funded through crowdfunding closing to 19 millions soon. The more you donate, the better stuff you get. But fear not, although it may appear P2W and even if the rich people start with the biggest ships, they will have nothing that a regular player not spending his hard earned money on it can't have with some effort IG.

IMHO Eve is just so badass, but it's a shame it's so time consuming and subscription based.
