I've had this problem a few times before, each time a different problem but same effect:

1) My computer booted but monitor standby...I later found while opening my computer case, a large dust bunny inhabiting the fan/heatsink area of my graphics card hence frying it. I had the card replaced though I haven't bothered cleaning my PC since

2) After fitting a new motherbord, I had the same problem, to find I had a few screws loose causing a short on the board or something :| Computer turned on but there was some weird pulsating effect, the fan lights blinking and fans going wild...

3) After fitting in some old ram I had lying around, I had the same problem again...I removed the faulty RAM module throough trial and error and it all worked well :)

From the Electronic mechanise technician.

It is possible a ram-block problem.

If not.

If you got an onboard screen terminal it can after a reading error in bios be set back to that.
Then use that terminal to switch back in bios. And then back to you AGP or PCI graphic card.

It is also possible that your graphic card is burned down.

On the topic, my laptop is toast. After deleting some nasty viruses, when I restarted my computer, now it only goes to the desktop, loads the icons, but in under a minute, I get the Blue Screen of Death, and it tells me: "An unknown error occured and the program terminated unexpectedly" I get a string of numbers, some techno mumbo jumbo, then it says "System will be shut down" it shuts down, restarts, then I get "unknown error has occured. System will be shut down" repeat.

I've tried Safe Mode. I've tried System Recovery Mode, but it won't load System Restore fast enough before i get the blue screen of death. I think the laptop is either killed by a virus, or the hardware is fried.

If anyone of you can help, it would be appreciated.
