The second the words Pangaea 2 were muttered is the second any ideas failed.
Keep Pangaea as is, changes of course can be made inside our current system. Bring back whoever wishes to come back and lead the shard, let's be kind and rewind a ton of the systems and character decions, then move on.
There is no hope without a scripter, so let's be real on what we have already.

This is about having no committed scripter on POL and therefore moving to RunOU.Vaux27 wrote:The second the words Pangaea 2 were muttered is the second any ideas failed.

More scripters for RunUO than we could ever dream of having on POL.

Re: "Pangaea 2" progress
I'm very much in the loop and I don't see any of this actually working. I'm hopeful but I don't see why we can't rewind the major systems that couldn't be maintained instead of moving an entire shard. It's like having a flat tire on your car and instead of changing it, you upgrade to a brand new car.
I don't have faith in a major move when we couldn't even handle current problems, scripting differences or not.

Re: "Pangaea 2" progress
You know the reasons why we are updating;
The player base is dwindling and we want to have more tools at our disposal to provide a more dynamic and enjoyable game. Currently, people macro in their houses, there's no RP and pvm is boring. PVP has died.I'm not completely sure what's changed over the years, perhaps it's the staff, perhaps people now have families.
What I do know, however, is that with a new platform on run uo the sky is our limit, literally. The POL we run on means we find it hard to find committed and willing scripters, with RUN UO being c# it means we can have a sustainable future for Pangaea, which, if we do develop new and excited features, may attract many more players and make the overall game a more interactive and fun game to play.
Currently there is no incentive to RP, the economy is screwed, heightened is flawed and the tools we have at our disposal are frustratingly out dated and awkward. The latter, you would not have experience with, but I can assure you that with these new tools such as XML spawner, I can do a hell of alot more.
And finally, with RUNUO we have so many more effects, spells etc that we can introduce as updates/new content to keep it fresh and exciting.
So again, we're not scrapping this idea and we're not taking 3 steps back on Pangaea's features.

well saidRicardus wrote:Dudes...we're pang! The shard most likely have died by now if it weren't for lots of players that make it always fun to return to pang shard, so let's be honest...what's makes pang be what it is, it's mostly us players with our own craziness and behaviors towards other players that makes this what it is.
we don't have to fear about being in a completely different shard if we change some things.
with these players, unless we completely remove religions and class system and the map/history, it's still going to be pangaea...
is the issue about having the old pangaea we all want when we had like 90 players on average?that one has died long ago, and it's not coming back, atleast not in our current form. i'd love for it to happen, but ppl grow, ppl stop playing, etc

Re: "Pangaea 2" progress
I've got a serious question here, Do you guys (Staff) have an idea as to how to keep the economy from spiraling out of control after X amount of time so we don't have to have item wipes every so often?Dante wrote:Currently there is no incentive to RP, the economy is screwed, heightened is flawed
Something like a total gold cap in circulation? Perhaps if we keep a similar lay out to our current religions....err kingdoms....have different currency depending on the territory you are in with exchange rates and the like depending on how that kingdom is flourishing/languishing?
The only reason I ask this is because every so often people throw up their arms and scream the economy is in a shitty state lets do an item wipe, if this is a major issue it ought be addressed and not with just item wipes every two years.
Here is what I am hoping for with this move if I havent already made this clear in previous posts, clean slate, we keep the basics, class system pkg and religion pkg, however, as we are starting anew, these can be rewritten and tweaked to take care of the shortcomings and let's be honest both these aforementioned pkgs have many shortcomings and as well as other flaws. Again religions do not need to be implemented right away, in fact I think it would be better to have it where the gods have left(or died) and through RP/events/Quests we discover the (new) gods. This gives everyone a chance to learn the storyline of each religion as opposed to how it is now, I have no real idea to what most of the storyline is for Pangaea because none of it has any bearing in game really.Glarundis wrote:with these players, unless we completely remove religions and class system and the map/history, it's still going to be pangaea...
These are probably super high hopes but its a chance to start from a clean slate, learn from the past of failed implementations and shortcomings of having certain pkgs that just overshadow everything else because from an ingame standpoint they always need to be tweaked or they offer much more power to players than was probably intended. But anyways, just my two cents.

Re: "Pangaea 2" progress
The shard died in 2010 as well and it was revived. With a working staff, everything's possible. You don't need a new core. You just need someone in the staff that has time and effort to run it properly. Vision, determination and drive are required for success. My guess is that Pang will never see RunUO. Not at least with the current staff. Before you hang your boots, be sure to take a copy of the shard and I'll revive it again. Otherwise the future can be summed up with one gif.Glarundis wrote:is the issue about having the old pangaea we all want when we had like 90 players on average?that one has died long ago, and it's not coming back, atleast not in our current form. i'd love for it to happen, but ppl grow, ppl stop playing, etc
