Personally I think closing Malas would be good, just make the dungeons there accesible from other location :)
Also some spawns there (exodus and stuff) could be moved ro felucca.

The problem with closing Malas for the mining character is that at some point A LOT of the ore veins were manually deleted tile by tile and moved to Malas. (quite poorly I might add, missed more than a few tiles at each vein) The amount of veins in relation to skill gain and difficulty getting to is absolutely horrible. This is something that can be improved without scripting? Seems like Malas down is a good thing for the playerbase, but a broken mining system is definately not. Maybe an eager beaver GM could re-check out the mining situation?
