The server is running 27/7 and imo is quite predictable that sooner or later an HD might crash for good. Thats what happened. It does nothing to do with the "consistency" of the server. The good thing is that the backup worked well and thus only a 3h wrap occur. In past there were many times where the backup data was corrupted which lead to often rollback for days.

how many money have you donated to equipment ?
I'll donate $100 when you give control of the remaining aspects of the server to the new staff, not a moment before then.

Seriously though.. Irming has been one of the top staff members since the shard started, forum admin, temporary shard host, hes done it all without complaint.

I find it sad that people get to whine when everything here is free. Gm and Admins give there time for us. Go play outside guys... This will maybe vent your heads.

When I heard about the shard crash, thoughts of massive time warps or item wipe scared the Pang out of me :o

A few hours later I discover the shard is back up as if nothing happened albeit a small time warp was present- but that is to be expected when you consider the main HD is busted and you're running from backups. If you have a computer that's on 24/7 365 days a year, HD crashes are inevitable- it has happened to me a couple of times as my machine is on...like...since it was created in my room many many years ago :geek:

I don't know if this has been implemented- I would also have an external backup HD drive and have backups uploading to a secure internet source. I did this with my final year project at university, and when the house suffered from persistent power cuts I just went to the campus and started printing off my work there :D Redundancy is pretty useful in a shard like this which has been around for years, I'd like it to be around for much longer but with more players

And thanks for keeping the shard breathing- I'm a pessimist IRL- you give me hope :)
