A question about Magery

One of my characters is trying their hand at becoming a mage, but it seems tough going.

Animal taming has allowed the purchase of a spell book, some scrolls and some reagents, but the spells I'm able to cast from what I've bought seem to give little or no (emphasis on no) skill gain.
I suspect I need to use harder spells at Magery 50% to gain skill.

The question is; where does one learn 4th Circle spells like Lightning, etc ?

You need a scribe character to make those scrolls for you. But you can also find those scrolls from monsters (like pixies and stuff).

And would a beginning (skill 50) Scribe be able to make 4th Circle scrolls, perchance?

you can contact hilda and he'll make you spells.
they are not very expensive, even for beginners.only the 7th and 8th circle are a bit more expensive, but you'll be classed by then.

you can also find many 4th circle spells in some monsters.

about the starting scribe, i think you'll be able to do it.
but it's hard to train a scribe after that!
