Class skills curiousity

Post by jalabar »

Just curious why the blacksmith was given swordsmanship to 100 (105) and tactics to 85? While the bowcrafter/fletcher can only have archery to 65? Rather odd decision, in my opinion. Both of them, really. I would think a bowcrafter that could make the finest bows would be a little better at shooting the damn things.

Smiths have higher combat skills due to locations of veins. There are usually more than a bunch of monsters guarding veins spots, wich the smith has to take down himself. What comes to bowyers and carpenters, well, it's rather easy to gather logs. There might be some monsters out there, but nothing compared to the so called "vein guardians".

RP-wise, sure, it makes sense for bowyers to have 100 archery.

Yeah, later I was thinking about the smith, and understand that it would be more dangerous to gather ore than wood, though some of the Tree Amigos or whatever those nasty things are (Treefellows) are pretty tough.

I do definitely think bowyers should get better than tertiary archery, just out of common sense and yeah, RP. It would be nice to take the exceptional walnut compound bow I made to a targetting gump and have a chance to hit something with it.

The other thing I would have done, since bowyers by necessity have to get pretty good with an axe, is give them swordfighting to tertiary rather than macefighting to penalty. Axes are swords for combat, yes?

No point in giving bowyer more archery as you have to be a tile away to shoot with most of bows past 65. (Repeater being he only exception)

And again :D +1 to 40sms for bowyers/carps.

I'm not saying for combat purposes. It just makes sense that someone that can make quality bows would be able to shoot them a bit. The swordsmanship thing is only due to the use of an axe already. I understand macefighting, since they can craft staves as well. But I spend hours swinging an axe. You'd think I'd be pretty good at it.
