How would this affect weapons? Magical items is an all encompassing statement. There doesn't need to be a broad brush stroke strategy taken here. Use a fine tipped brush instead. Bowyer can only really make bows so if the magical properties were taken from those weapons it would not really change much as most people with an archer, currently have a bowyer. Smiths currently get business. This seems to be an armor discussion not a weapons discussion.Monad wrote:This isn't about clothes but armors/weapons.

Re: Magical items
May I ask items with resist charges count or not?
Re: Magical items
Like Mike said this would be viable if it wasen't for the fact that a decent armor is 100k atm. If more veins are added (requested this a long time ago and was told it was gonna be done - boy did I get fooled) I would be all for it since then prices would be so outrageous.
100k is by no means a reasonable price when you consider in pure gold a decent hunt is 200-250k gold split on the group.

Didn't read all four pages but...Boris wrote:Most likely we're looking at a 80% 'No' poll result, but you all have to admit, that this would be a cure. It's no win-win by any means, but it does make sense.

You think THIS is the cure? No, no, no. Boris, Boris, Boris. This is everything else, this will only make things worse in the long run.
For this to work you'd need to make more veins -> eventually leading to the same situation. Except now we would play in a world where we are all nerfed - Good magic items > any crafted item. Also by removing magic items you remove a huge part of why we are hunting. If we'd hunt only for the money to buy armors... well I can loot armors from my enemies so no need to hunt.
This would lead to the end of hunting. People would only buy PvP armors anymore if needed to - if they fail to loot them from enemies.

Also armors and weapons from different metal are already very rare.Boris wrote:Veins and loot are no problem. Both can be dealt with (without bothering Wille).
One option is keeping magical armor/weapons from iron/normal bone/normal leather/normal wood in the world. This way druids/necros have less/none to loose.

It's the bones and hides that seem to be everywhere. Those high level magic hide armors should be tweaked to A LOT rarer. The orc hides, lizard hides etc could still drop fairly often, but we see magic unicorn hides, giant hides etc everywhere.
Re: Magical items
That's no issue either. If basic types (iron, normal hide, normal bone, normal wood) are kept in the game, those items will still have charges + clothing. On the other hand, if the material types above were wiped aswell - then we could gives scribes new scrolls (i.e. fire resistance scroll), wich could be added to armor and clothing.Bella Pious wrote:May I ask items with resist charges count or not?
One viable option is cutting magical armor and weapons from loot without a wipe. It would be temporary and a simple test.
- Boris
Leather armor is best for sneaking, because it's literally made from hide.

Re: Magical items
Oh and also, hides and bones aside, good magic armors or weapons are already VERY rare. You can find aughlite, syntian, silver... but in my time in Pangaea, in this 10 years I've only ever heard of ONE magic auropian part that is actually good - chainmail gloves of invul.Boris wrote:One option is keeping magical armor/weapons from iron/normal bone/normal leather/normal wood in the world. Acquiring weapons and armors that are better than the ones crafted is one reason why I'm playing. I want to be able to one day have a daemon skull set of invulnerability making me almost immortal in melee. However, so far I've never heard of anyone finding even a single piece.
So like I said in above post, bones and hides should be tweaked to be equally rare. The metal weapons and metal armors aren't a problem here and have never been, those are the only items that are rare and sell for a high price. The problem is that during Alteran's time the world was filled with smithed good armors, which we still have.

Re: Magical items
Alright, finally at work so more time to read and think.
Some here say they'd cut the "good stuff" like forti/invul. I'd say quite the opposite. The good stuff is already pretty rare, not to mention the good stuff made from anything else than iron. The best magic items found by hunting should always be a lot better than the best smithed items. This is the reason why people hunt in MMORPGs, they always try to find an item that will make them even stronger.
That said, cut all the shit stuff - stuff below forti/invul and power/vanq - and keep the good stuff in the loot group. That way people aren't running around in armors of guarding or hardening, but they instead need to buy an armor from a smith. Also, where special armors and weapons are already rare enough, the bones and hides should definitely be made equally rare.
You said you could wipe all the magic items on the shard? Instead wipe all the magic hide and bone stuff found so far. There are ridiculous amounts of them. Before doing so remove them from the loot group and give the players one week to "return" them to the Handyman for 5.000 each magic leather/bone item. After one week, wipe all the remaining magic bones/hides. Then return them to loot group, but make them equally rare to special metal armors.
Now, if you could wipe only magic items, it means you should also be able to wipe all the crafted items only, right? So instead of wiping magic items, I say wipe the crafted items because THAT's where the problem is. The problem originates back to Alteran's day when the shard was swarmed with good ores and veins. If those items are wiped now, the best crafted armors would stay rare and more expensive. Although, to be honest, I do understand that at the moment the crafted items are sold for very cheap compared to the old days or not sold at all due to no one wanting them, however what I don't understand is why do we assume smiths should be able to sell their goods for millions where as any other merchant can't... I don't undestand the logic there considering how easy a smith is to train compared to some other merchant classes. I remember the days when auropians cost 1.000.000 but whose to say that they should cost that much? Smiths back then were swimming in gold, buying castles like it was candy. I do get people remember it like that, but why should it be like that.
Anyway, those are my opinions and concerns.

That would bring a lot of market to scribes actually! +1 for resist scrolls being added to clothing/armours.Boris wrote: On the other hand, if the material types above were wiped aswell - then we could gives scribes new scrolls (i.e. fire resistance scroll), wich could be added to armor and clothing.
