The problem isn't in Tek having someone, the problem is in robbers having Tek to back them up, not vice versa.

Well , in my opinion, no religion should be mixing itself with robbers and criminals directly (there could and should be discreet pacts, assasinations etc. etc.). That being said I also think the fact that a blue charachter allying him/herself with Tekstone shouldn't turn red. Although it has been shot down once, I want to propose even a system of different name colouring:
Religions:
Law: White
Tekstone : Black (or violet dk if black could be read easily.)
Imperial: Orange
Nature: Brown or green
Normal players
Regular joes :) : Blue(If they or the Guild they are in is allied to a religion, and addition to the name tag is made like Xoxoxo, the Wonder boy, ATL(allied to Law))
Robber tagged Felons  Gray (they are not allowed contact with religions, and hunted by all)
Plain old murderers : Red (they are not allowed direct alliance with religions, but they can join even Law if they choose the way of redemption.)

Dunno if this system sounds stupid to the core to guys more knowledgeable about these issues, but the point is that things can change and they can change for the better.

I'd rather wipe out religions. Even a Tekstone tome is a crutch if compared to a pietyless character.

If you look at religions IRL, they tend to think of themselves as good and opposing religions mistaken/wrong. Another thing is that even if the religion in question preached violence against others, they make a lot of effort to distance themselves from thieves/murderers/scammers...
Religions created a lot of hate between some people, as the robber stuff and that is step by step destroying Pangaea and this forum, as we can see.
It would be nice if those who actually want to PvP, should join a religion for that, and those who want to avoid PvP shouldn't have to be dragged into religion wars. I've been dragged into alot of religious crap IRL to want to see much of it IG (though I tolerate it somewhat), but you can't always have what you want :D

I have noticed that IG religions tend to faction off people from each other IRL, I'm probably a prime example of this, but I do tend to get on well with a few people IG from opposing religions but I think their IRL personality makes up for the IG hostilities :)

On what basis, do you assume that it is better than Tekstones?

Veritas, solitude. Together = win
Even alone, veritas = win

Hmmm, I honestly don't believe that is the right way to think about it. Then a guild is crutch compared to those without one, let's remove guilds.

Fail.. Obviously guilds are diffrent since being in a guild dosen't give you access to rites.

This. Being in a guild does not give you any special powers.

How is it more of a fail then calling religions a crutch? Are rites the only thing that make you powerful in the game? By that logic if you're saying that religions are a crutch because they grant you extra power by rites, then I'll say that guilds can get you easier access to resources, making you more powerful. I don't believe that this is the right mind set, as there is actually people like Darian Darkmind and Orin and lots of other guys in religions who spend time RP'ing religous characters, dedicating themselves to them and I believe that should earn you the extra power of religion. Such as spending time RP'ing a newborn kingdom and dedicating yourselves to it, earns you the power to tax people to the hilt. :)
