Re: Carpenter Boost - Remove the newbie Boats
Questions : even if all these are to be changed, what about the boats already made with the ridiculous failure rate and amount of materials but not yet sold, or the boats ppl paid 300~400k for?
Make larger boats non-lootable but needs repair -- say for every 90 mins on water it will need to be repaired/refueled. People can't launch a boat at shore waiting to escape because the boat cannot be in water forever.
Make smaller boats lootable but do not need repair -- so for cooks who needs to fish for hours need not to worry about a stuck boat in the middle of nowhere.

Re: Carpenter Boost - Remove the newbie Boats
Its kind of same logic as, remove recall/religious transport because there is no way to catch enemy once he has used it... I'd say keep the boats like they are now, it will just bring huge unreasonable trouble getting new boats all of the time.Demian wrote:Cyrus, the reason as to why boats shouldn't be used to escape PvP is because there is no way to actually get your enemy from a boat, even if you chase him on a boat yourself. The enemy can just keep sailing for hours, or days in theory. And boat keeps ressing so the gear will never decay either. And the specifics don't matter anyway. Fact is, that is a bulletproof way to escape PvP and if nothing else it should be made illegal to use boats to escape PvP. It would be a completely different case if it wasn't possible to give orders to boat while being dead and the boat wouldn't ress. And it would be possible to enter the boat once it crashes onto some land somewhere. But THAT is for another discussion and time. Though doesn't change the fact that it's already reason enough to make boats lootable if there is no rule changes.
There are plenty of other reasons to make boats lootable too. One is it would create market as you would eventually lose your boat. Or atleast they would be lost more than they currently are. And at that point you have to buy a new one = Market for carpenters.
So i suggest to figure out another way to earn money for carpenter...

Re: Carpenter Boost - Remove the newbie Boats
I agree with Bella. The price is the problem, not that it is newbified. Cheapest boats used to be 20k from vendors which was way more reasonable price imo.Bella Pious wrote:Well then it really depends on their Usefulness V.S. Price (as well as the trouble carpenter needs to go through to craft it).
Usefulness. Cooks need boat to fish. People use boats to store items and to resurrect them when no shrine is near. You can sail to islands with boats.
Price. Right now the large dragon boat is around 300k because of the high failure rate and the amount of material required to craft it.
300k is matching up to some useful indy cloth. If I were to have a chance of losing it whenever I die then I would probably store it in the bank unless I am going out with a party. So unless you lower the price by making it easier for Carpenters to craft boats, boats will lose its usefulness. It will not increase the sales because people will be more careful using their boats and less people are willing to use them. Boats should be newbified when in your main backpack, but let them have decay timer if parked. If it is not too much trouble to script, let them require maintenance depending on the usage (usage could be the amount of time it has been in water, or the amount of time it has been drydocked.)
How can a starting cook afford to buy a boat for 300k anyway? Not to mention if there's also a risk to lose it..
Re: Carpenter Boost - Remove the newbie Boats
Id say the cloth isnt a problem. It is those boards you loose when failing, which takes much longer to get than cloth since you can easily loose more than 600 boards per failDante wrote:Boat chases just don't happen - they're pointless.
Other than that, we could half the amount of cloth required to craft one or reduce the failrate and make them lootable.
We can't neglect a class that as stated before has no renewable or profitable market, based on personal goals - how many carpenters are there vs the rest of the shard.

Re: Carpenter Boost - Remove the newbie Boats
Boats are kinda expensive atm, one of the reasons I haven't bought them for all my characters though they are all newbied. I kinda like them being newbied and stuff, a something other than a house that's permanent? So I have a bias/conflicted view here
Personally I'd rather have it so the boats need maintenance/repairs from carpenters which adds to the constant need for carpenters as I suggested in another topic (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4616&p=36641&hilit=+boat#p36641).

Re: Carpenter Boost - Remove the newbie Boats
No, really don't see boats as being the huge money gainer for the carpenter considering if you are able to lose it people wont take them out or have them as much. Only reason I have a boat on my account at all is because it is newbified so I can carry it for an emergency, if I could lose it or would lose it I would not buy another one as there is no real need except for a few merchants or travel some places faster if you don't have a magic user.
Re: Carpenter Boost - Remove the newbie Boats
I agree that boats are a way to escape pvp and I see no reason why it should be considered any different than convocation, etc. for those who ain't in a religion.
Removing boat would give people outside religion a very unfair disadvantage. And many times people inside religion who ain't got rites or spells.
Imho, this shouldn't be changed xD

I'll go for a no due to lowering boat security. Nowadays they're suppose to be houses (with no house value) on sea.
Otherwise don't really care about the PvP aspect. The bigger picture has more value.

New idea: house boats for hobosPercy wrote:Then lets make bigger boats with better value <3
Big boats with several hatches. No tillerman (no resurrecting, can't be used for sailing), quick log off.
