Even simple stuff can make a big difference.

When I played Pangaea, ICQ for some apparent reason, was super heavy and ate a lot of my computers performance. I switched to Miranda and it made a huge difference.

Sure it does. ICQ is cluttered and horribly ugly, with loads of memory leaks. Pidgin, Miranda, anything is better than ICQ for ICQ.

This is true, but it's not the problem. During the lag everyone in our hunt group lagged at the same time, and people are on different ICQ clients.
