What inspires you?

Post by Aznar »

I am wondering about the stuff that inspires people.
Poems? Phrases? Movies? Books? Music? ... ?
If you have a source for inspiration, please share it with us so that we may all get inspired from it.

I'll start with a phrase that always helps me when I have to decide to do something or just forget about it because it's too far away or too expensive or too risky:

Don't dream your life, live your dreams.

If you have money to spend on vacations, spend it, cause who knows what will happen tomorrow?
If you are on a vacation far away and you'll probably never return there, if there's something special to be done (like visit a large building or a beautiful cave or a helicopter ride or a bungee jump or whatever) and you think it's way too expensive, just do it. Don't look at the pricetag and spend that money without looking back. You will never regret it.

Now then, what inspires you?

Myself.. Nothing inspires me. I consider that a huge flaw, but it can't be helped until I find it.

Used to be music that inspired me, but now that there isn't much good music (for my taste) left i have to look for a better inspiration key.

i really like quotations.
music (with lyrics) can have great meaning. without lyrics, can also be great but the meaning is not so clear (don't get me wrong, i'm studying classical music, so that's the stuff i like, but the fact can't be denied)
some books, but i'd go for few phrases here and there instead of whole books, so i guess that can fall under quotations category.
and certainly movies
great movies can really inspire you and change your way of looking at life.

but i guess what's fair to say, what really is inspirational, is life itself, the experience of it. in a positive way, or a bad way.

can you tell someone how nice it is go to to paris/prague/whatever? no, he must go there himself, that's the only way he'll really know what it is (even if he doesn't like it!)
same for food, etc etc etc

Have you ever seen the movie Yes man with Jim Carrey? It's a real eye-opener.

yeah but i prefered "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind". even though "yes man" has a great point.

also, i'm very much into movies that are mind confusing, like "shutter island" or "the origin" and so many others

then, there's the whole "non-hollywood genre" which has of course very good movies here and there.

"redacted" and "the diving bell and the butterfly"

and most movies with kevin spacey are great. "k-pax" and "the life of david gale" or "american beauty"
