Yes and no. You made a huge mistake of identifying all activists as smucks that lives on wellfare. I am not saying type of people you mention doesnt exists though
Here is rl example but i wont give any names. A good comrade of mine who graduated from university couldnt find a job on his field of study. So he got a job in a certain hotel as receptionists. During his stay in the hotel he desided to pursue his ideology and organize workers to form a union. He succeeded but it allso cost him his job, meaning that the management found a sily reason to fire him.
Now insted of pursueing a union(thus organizing proletariat) he could have been selfish sob like some people and only pursue his personal intrests such as rising above the ranks. Now he still cant find a job in his field so he is going back to college to become respetory therapist.
This guy is communist and activist to the the very core and one of few people I truly respect. Would you call him layzy? If so then i would easly identify you as selfcentered egoist

I can't get a job, makes me think back to 1940 when no man went without a job, when the nationalist socialist party was in power. Oh such glorious times.

I wonder what the union was good for if he could just be fired like that. I'm a board member of the union at my workplace and we would not have let that happen.Andoriel wrote:Yes and no. its a newly formed union. Before it actualy got through, management wanted to fire all the leaders. It back fired ofc with demonstrations and strikes. Thus the union has been formed fully. Problem is that there has been 4 months gap between the time he got fired and forming of the union so he allready decided to go back to college. Pluss there isnt realy alot of jobs you can do with a psycology degree from universities.

I said most activists, and I said that it only annoys me if they use it as a reason, as an excuse not to work. I meant those who are unemployed and don't even want to work. They avoid work, they go to employment office in hope that they DON'T get a job. Of course there are activists who work and want to work. There are activists who actually make a lot of money through work. A funny thing though that many of these often, surprisingly realize and change their point of view and ideology once they get a taste of power and real money - so they aren't real activists to the heart, it's just an excuse like I said before. Your friend obviously is one of those who want to work and/to/while pursue his own ideology. He even studied further after being fired. Your friend realized that for things to happen he has to act and work for it. You can't stick it to the man by doing nothing but play UO. Congrats to him for making the union even if it wasn't recognized before it was too late - although, like Mike said, if the people in the union were really united, they couldn't have fired him.Andoriel wrote:Yes and no. I might be nitpicking and let me know if I am. The reason I quoted this part of your statement is because there are many in my own country that think this way. The problem is that you think this way. What makes you think (not based on personal experiences and one'sy two'sy situations) that there is a large population out there that thinks like this? Identifying a group of people that do not want to work based on reasons you stated is ludicrous.Darian Darkmind wrote:I said most activists, and I said that it only annoys me if they use it as a reason, as an excuse not to work. In America, the disenfranchised tend to choose not to work and live off of the government while crying they want more of LESS government, yet they expect the government to take care of them if they cannot take care of it themselves (healthcare [providing it], standard of living [providing and regulating policy for society], quality of life [giving more effort to increasing a society based on THEIR beliefs], income based fairness [expecting government to fix the problem in regards to minimum wage], scrupulous credit card disbursement by credit card companies and punishing irresponsible banks for dishing out loans the customer had no chance of paying back) [regulating companies because consumers were either ignorant or fooled into believing they could repay a loan]. It's an absolute maddening topic to have out with people that think so absentmindedly.

Right. We have pretty strong unions in Sweden, one of the few good things left of the Social Democrats of the old guard.Andoriel wrote:its a newly formed union. this is a very touchy subject.
imo, i think everyone should contribute in a way. this means, you don't have to work, if you are studying. but if you're doing nothing at all, you can't expect to be receiving. if it's like that, you're actually stealing.
in the system the world has, everyone's connected. so, whenever you get paid for doing nothing, but you aren't trading that payment with your work, you're stealing from everybody else.
if the world didn't work like this, sure, you didn't have to work. but then you wouldn't eat either. if you wanted to eat, you'd have to go out and grow some vegetables and then eat = you'd have to work.
this said, it's also true that the job system sucks, the "fairness" of wages suck, the whole capitalism system sucks.
but that doesn't mean you can ignore it all and suck from the system even more.
that's like saying "shit humans do all kind of bad things to one another every day. there's no happy future for us. ok so i'm gonna kill myself"
if you're doing NOTHING at all, you deserve nothing at all.
in very abstract terms, it's like. everyone works to pile up items. you don't work, but you use those items. you are stealing.

I guess that if your goal is to destroy the system you could make it your objective to abuse it as much as possible for personal gain. But then again if you do, you become so dependent on said system that you are of no value without it.
