Re: Important: The Future of Pangaea
if we decide to work on RunUO i know C# and can help with it potentially.
I think we should allow transferring over of characters too, youll lose players if you dont allow it.
Iktomi or Dante, message me on icq. I have some friends who run a hosting service, might be able to reduce costs.
i dont want to see pang shut down.
but as far as staying with POL or RUNUO, i think we should get the shard running smoothly and give RunUO a shot.
for the current shard, i think we should remove the mayor system or just put 99999999999999999 money in each town and lock it for now because its making ghost towns which isnt helping our situation.
deciding on RunUO or not i guess we need to assess the situation.
How much time will it take?
How many people are willing to help, how many hours can they contribute?
Does it cost more/less?
How much different would the game be?

i agree a bit with dargon in terms of losing everything you've worked for.
i don't mind an item wipe that much, but dammit...only being able to transfer 1 char?some ppl would most definately have to transfer all 5 to not lose something massive. i'm guessing even the average player would have atleast 3 well trained chars

It's a bigger job to re-create the shard than most of the ppl realize, been tried before and we all know how it's gone
I whine, therefore I am

Point 6 from Iktomi sounds the best for me. If we need to go to RUNUO from POL to enhance player base and add-on then so be it. It wouldn't be the first item-wipe.
As long as we can change to RUNUO and keep all our stats/skills/characters (and optionally start creating fresh ones) then I see that as the best option.
I leave for 3 days to go camping and this is what I come back to

I think a full item wipe is almost guaranteed (our economy is fucked, and a wipe will kind of be necessary if we want to have any chance of creating a new more balanced economy).
That said, full character transfer is entirely likely (if not probable). I like the idea of wiping murder counts and a free rename for every character... giving people a chance to start new (but not new).

I would be willing to help with the coding if the RunUO option gets chosen. I am 99.87% confident I am better than 98.64% of monkeys. (I think RunUO is in C#, am I right?)
Re: Important: The Future of Pangaea
I would be happy to move over if we could take atleast 3 chars over ot more with us

Re: Important: The Future of Pangaea
Realistically, how many scripting hours are we talking about?
Re: Important: The Future of Pangaea
I'd go with RunUO. A solid back-end platform is the foundation of a successful endeavour. POL being outdated doesn't just mean its old, it means we can't get people who have the knowledge and motivation to work with it since there's no regrowth of POL programmers. Being stuck in a no-development zone is bad news, especially considering we have a bunch of things that need fixing.

Sounds like it's time for a comeback.
